Egmont has offered a book deal to Bryony Pearce, whose novel Windrunner's Daughter made it to 2008's Undiscovered Voices anthology.

The 2010 Waterstones' Children's Book Prize has long-listed a book by Steve Hartley, one of the winners of the ground-breaking Undiscovered Voices anthology in 2008.

Undiscovered Voices 2009 was launched yesterday at a special Professional Series event, which featured three literary agents and two editors plus previous winners of the Undiscovered Voices competition.

November 20 to 22 has been set as the date of our 2009 conference for children's writers and illustrators in Winchester.

February 2010 is the date set for the publication of Castle of Cards, the first of a quartet of adventures for the 9+ reader by Ellen Renner, SCBWI's coordinator for the South West network.

The Barbara Karlin Grant has been established to recognize and encourage the work of aspiring picture book writers.

The Don Freeman Memorial Grant-In-Aid has been established by the SCBWI to enable picture-book artists to further their understanding, training, and work in the picture-book genre.

Nominations for SCBWI Member of the Year are due before 1 May 2009. Each year, SCBWI presents the Member of the Year award to a member who has given outstanding service to the organization. Congratulations to these Members of the Year and many thanks for all of their support.

This is a reminder to all SCBWI members that applications for SCBWI's Work-in-Progress grants will be due in February.

Literary agency Mulcahy Conway Associates has established a new prize of £1,000 to be awarded to the best piece of unpublished fiction written for children or young adults.

Puffin has just launched the book trailer of Sarwat Chadda, one of the first authors snapped up by a publisher after SCBWI British Isles released its Undiscovered Voices anthology in conjunction with Working Partners last Spring.

Claira Jo Craig, regional advisor of SCBWI Scotland, has announced the names of the agents to feature in the January 9 2009 Agent's Party in Edinburgh.

SCBWI Scotland Regional Advisor Claira Jo Craig has announced that the deadline for booking for Scotland's Agent's Party has been extended to 15th December. Claira Jo said:

Steve Hartley, one of the Undiscovered Voices winners, has signed an eight-book deal with Macmillan to publish Danny Baker, Record Breaker. Danny Baker was Steve's entry to the 2008 Undiscovered Voices anthology competition.
